Former goalkeeper and City in the Community ambassador Alex Williams MBE is the latest guest on the official Man City podcast.

Born in Moss Side, Williams is a legendary figure at the Club, with his association stretching back over 45 years.

He first joined Manchester City in 1978, becoming one of the game’s first modern-day black goalkeepers.

Forced to hang up the gloves due to a back injury at 25, he was soon an integral force behind the Club’s official charity, City in the Community.

Awarded an MBE for his services to the community, Williams first became an ambassador for CITC in 1990 and will retire from his full-time role at the end of August 2023.

On 16 August 2023, he released an autobiography, You Saw Me Standing Alone, providing a fascinating insight into his life and career to date, from his battle against racism to his achievements with CITC and beyond.

Sitting down with Rob Pollard and Nedum Onuoha, Williams reflects on his early years following the Club, including how Joe Corrigan and Keith MacRae helped his early development between the sticks and the impact that CITC has had on young people in Manchester and beyond.
