Today, to mark the 25th anniversary of the 1999 Play-Off Final, we’re resurfacing an Official Man City Podcast episode with Joe Royle and Andy Morrison.

Royle was manager while Morrison was captain as City beat Gillingham in the Second Division showpiece clash to earn promotion at Wembley.

Royle talks to our Head of Editorial, Robert Pollard, of his admiration for goal hero Paul Dickov and how working with him on his finishing paid dividends when it mattered most.

He also spoke glowingly about goalkeeper Nicky Weaver and why, when the penalty shoot-out arrived, he feared the worst!

Royle also discusses the impact of fellow guest, his skipper Morrison, on the entire football club.

Morrison, meanwhile, talks about the camaraderie in the dressing room, the fear of not getting promoted and the high emotion at helping the club go up.

The episode was recorded in August 2020.
