Elite Development Squad head coach Brian Barry-Murphy and winger Joel Ndala have spoken of their sense of excitement and anticipation ahead of City’s forthcoming UEFA Youth League last 16 tie with FC Mainz.

Today’s draw in Nyon, Switzerland pitted our Under-19s away to the German side with the tie set to take place on Tuesday, February 27, kick-off 5pm (UK).

City booked our passage through to the knockout stages after topping our group, going through the six-game schedule unbeaten.

Mainz meanwhile progressed through the domestic champions path and are into the round of 16 after a dramatic 6-5 win on penalties against Barcelona Under-19s earlier this week after the sides had drawn 2-2.

It’s the second season in a row City have been drawn away at this stage following last season’s last 16 trip to Hajduk Split which ended in a narrow 2-1 loss in Croatia.

This time round however both Barry-Murphy and Ndala say the opportunity to try to progress in Europe is a prospect they are savouring.
