Brian Barry-Murphy spoke of his sense of pride after seeing City’s Under-19s seal our place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League with a superb 2-1 win at home to RB Leipzig.

In what was a high-quality, high-octane encounter at the Joie Stadium, City had fallen behind to a first half Leipzig penalty.

But we turned the match on its head with a superb second half showing capped by wonderful team goals from Kane Tylor and Josh Adam.

The result ensured we will finish top of Group G and so progress straight through to the last 16 for a second successive season.

And for the head coach it was another signpost as to his young players’ growing maturity and development.

“I’m feeling drained so I can only imagine how the players feel! They put so much into that they deserve that sense of euphoria at the end,” Barry-Murphy declared.

“It was such a competitive high-level game. I really enjoyed it.

“You always have a sense of jeopardy with a team like Leipzig but we showed great maturity in how we handled it and I was very proud of the players.

“You are going to face games where the challenge increases in the Youth League.

“It’s a game that will really benefit our players in their development moving forward.”
