Brian Barry-Murphy said he was happy to see his team continue to implement City’s style of play while showcasing their individual personalities in a positive performance against RB Leipzig on Wednesday afternoon.

The Under-19s fought back to draw 1-1 in our latest UEFA Youth League match which sees us stay joint top of Group F with four points from two games following our 5-2 win over Red Star Belgrade last month.

Despite going a goal down around the hour mark, Barry-Murphy was pleased to see City’s determination continue to shine through while the young players continued to gain valuable experience from the away fixture.

“I thought we had good spells in the game but the first half we were under pressure for good spells,” said Barry-Murphy post-match.

“And more than anything else I’m just happy with the personality of the team and the way we tried to attack in the second half while understanding that some of our play wasn’t always fluid but very satisfying.

It’s easier to say it’s just another game but I sense the players can be quite nervous in these games because it’s something different for them and I think we were a little bit tentative in how we played the game but in the second half we definitely stepped on the gas and I felt we were in control towards the end of the game and created good chances if not a host of them.”
