It’s been five years to the day since that Leroy Sane free-kick against Hoffenheim in the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side welcomed the Bundesliga side to the Etihad Stadium in the final Champions League group game of the 2018/19 campaign.

City were fighting for the top spot of Group F after already securing a sixth successive season in the knockout stages in the European competition while Hoffenheim were fighting for a place in the Europa League.

But it wasn’t going to be easy for City after the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 16th minute after Aymeric Laporte pushed over Benjamin Hubner within the six-yard box.

Striker Andrej Kramaric converted the spot kick and left City with a lot of work to do with the remaining 74 minutes.

City pushed for an equaliser in front of a packed-out Etihad Stadium and the hard work paid off.

A mesmerising 29-yard free-kick by Leroy Sane saw the teams head down the tunnel at half-time with the score level.

It was the German international again and this time his strike gave City the lead for the first time in the clash after beautiful link-up play with Raheem Sterling.
