Pep Guardiola revealed he received a text message from Sir Alex Ferguson on the eve of our Champions League triumph.

City’s 1-0 win over Inter ensured Guardiola equalled the achievement of Ferguson in winning the Treble.

And our manager said he was touched to hear from the former United boss hours before kick-off in Turkey’s Ataturk Stadium.

He said: “It is an honour for me to be alongside Sir Alex Ferguson in that situation.

“I have to say, I got a message from him this morning on my phone. It was touching. A lot.

“It is an honour for me to be with him in this place. It’s so nice.”

Guardiola will take time to rest and recuperate before plans begin for 2023/24 but for now he’s just relishing the open top bus parade through Manchester, which is set for Monday.

“Today I am incredibly satisfied. I like this competition for the fact that we won it and it will be part of our history. The players will be remembered for the rest of their lives,” added Guardiola.

“We have time. Next season will be next season. But now it’s time to celebrate and I am looking forward to Manchester on Monday afternoon to put in a coach our three trophies. It is so nice.”
