Nathan Ake believes City’s performance was enough to beat Liverpool, but we had to settle for a point in a tight encounter at the Etihad.

Erling Haaland netted his 50th Premier League goal in 48 matches to give Pep Guardiola’s men the lead, but Trent Alexander-Arnold managed to find the far corner of Ederson’s net to equalise for Liverpool late on.

The draw keeps City top of the Premier League ahead of the later afternoon fixtures but Ake believes the performance of his teammates deserved more than a point.

“I think everyone wanted more,” the Dutchman expressed.

“We felt solid, we didn’t really create too many chances, but we controlled the game way more than we did against Chelsea, so I think we did well in that aspect.

“We know they like to play on the counter attack with the attackers they have but I think the whole team defended really well today.

“We tried to create some chances and just before their goal we created a good one but in the end we know they have the quality to score.

“So in the end it’s disappointing that one shot from distance goes in and we draw the game.”
