Juanma Lillo believes a mixture of stability alongside ‘special’ players and coaches has resulted in this current scintillating City side.

City’s assistant coach returned to the position he held between 2020 and 2022 this summer following the departure of Enzo Maresca to Leicester and the conclusion of his position as Al Sadd’s head coach.

During his absence from the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s side won the Treble last term consisting of our sparkling maiden Champions League, third successive Premier League and seventh FA Cup.

But the Spaniard isn’t surprised by the captivating football those in sky blue continue to produce due to, in his opinion, the Club’s immensely strong foundations on and off the field.

And Lillo is delighted to be back alongside his Catalonian counterpart on the touchline in Manchester.

Speaking to the media in place of Guardiola, who is recovering from successful back surgery, he explained: “Well a good team without good players is impossible to make.

“The moment you have good players and you have a really good coach and are well managed now the training, the way we train has a lot to do with the way we play.

“That’s how we do it. Then the stability the club has, and we can feel it all, everyone involved feels that stability. That mixture does that.

“We can continue to do things right and it may not go our way but we will continue to do things the right way. I hope that we can continue to achieve great results.

“I’m coming back, I’m already on my way back so to speak and he’s [Pep] someone special to me.

“Not only in a footballing manner of speaking, I am here to be with someone who has been important in my life. He’s very important to me. When I left it was more of a see you later.”
