Laura Coombs says City are determined to make a fast start against Leicester after we were held by the Foxes in the Continental Cup.

Gareth Taylor’s side are aiming for a seventh successive win in the Women’s Super League when we meet at the Joie Stadium at 13:00 (UK), with the game live on CITY+.

Leicester won on penalties when we met in November after the game finished 2-2, with City two-down at half-time.

Coombs, who scored the equaliser, says they are determined not to make the same mistake with the team so focused on their challenge for the WSL title.

“I don’t think we started that game too well and we’ll be looking to rectify that and make a fast start,” she said. “They are a very aggressive side so we know how to combat that.

“We want to win the league. Yes we want to win the cups but the league is the one we’re really pushing for this year. We’re going into it fully focused.

“We’ve just got a real dominant style of play. I think you’ve seen it in recent weeks and we’re at a stage where we’re really clicking.

“Going into the second half of the season, it’s very important that we carry that forward in our performances.”

New signings  Laura Blindkilde Brown and Poppy Pritchard are both eligible to play this weekend having signed on deadline day, but Tara O’Hanlan is out injured.

Coombs has only trained with former Aston Villa midfielder Blindkilde Brown so far, but believes the new recruits have made the right decision by choosing City.

“Laura seems great, she’s going to fit in straight away,” she added. “She looks like a technical, hard-working midfielder so hopefully she’s going to fit straight in with us.

“I think being here, she’s going to improve so much. I wish I’d been here when I was 20.

“Where I’d be as a player and the opportunities, she’s going to be around great players and great people every day and her career is only going to benefit from that.”
