Gareth Taylor says City’s victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier in the season was a huge moment for the squad.

United visit the Joie Stadium on Wednesday night at 19:00 (UK) with a City win guaranteeing top spot in Group B.

It will be the second derby of the campaign after the 3-1 victory in November when Jill Roord, Lauren Hemp and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw were on target in a superb victory.

“It feels like a while ago but it was a big moment, to play with the identity that we showed after a couple of disappointing results not performances,” Taylor said at his pre-match news conference.

“We made a statement that evening and we want to do that tomorrow evening.

“We’re creating a lot of opportunities at the top end, scoring goals and playing with confidence.

“We’re always looking to be the best versions of ourselves. Tomorrow is a funny game because United are already through but they will want to give a good account of themselves.

“They potentially have one eye on the weekend but we don’t. We are really focused on this game.”

Meanwhile, Taylor says he is happy with the quality of his squad but has not ruled out any new arrivals in the transfer window.

Norway international Julie Blakstad left City to join Hammarby IF on a permanent deal earlier this week and the boss says there were various factors behind that decision.

“We’re always at the forefront of that and we are really active,” he said. “That’s not to mean we will go out and bring in a couple of players this window.

“We allowed Julie to leave and that was for many factors. When we turn to the bench, we need to keep good levels of availability and fitness and the team behind the team are doing great work to keep everyone available.

“That allows me to play the best players as much as I can. We’ll see, never say never.

“We’re really happy with the squad we have, we made a conscious decision in the summer to keep the squad and bring in Jill because we felt there was more mileage in it.”
