Sergio Aguero scored his 100th Premier League goal to open the scoring in the first half before Vurnon Anita’s 31st minute strike ensured that the points would be shared.

The Mirror, in their five things they learned from the game, believe City were not at their best as they begin to prepare for next week’s Champions League semi-final.
Simon Bird writes: “They started the game purring and taking a fortunate lead, but ended it in a physical scrap they didn’t seem to fancy.
“This was not City at their best. Newcastle showed they can be frustrated for long periods with a hard pressing game.
“Rafa Benitez hoped that the Champions League semi-final clash with Real Madrid next week would be a distraction, and it was.
“Perhaps City can only be measured when that game happens, not in the preliminary league skirmishes.”
Joe Hart made an important save late on to deny Newcastle a winner and the Daily Mail pick that out as one of the key moments in the game.
Martin Samuel scribes: “With two minutes remaining, substitute Georginio Wijnaldum got the better of Aleksandar Kolarov and was suddenly through on goal.
“For a moment, it looked as if this could be the turning point of the season, but Joe Hart came flying off his line to make an outstanding save.
“A point for Newcastle will seem like a good return to some, but the fact is it is short of what they need right now.
“Manchester City were hardly at their best either, with Real Madrid due in town next week. In time, this may look more like two points dropped.”
Skipper BBC following the completion of the game which marked his return from injury and stated his belief that it wasn’t a bad result for City.
The Belgian is quoted as saying: “It was a tough game, they are playing for their lives. You wouldn’t call it a bad draw.
“We need to win as many games as we can but I have seen a good Newcastle team tonight. It was a hostile environment and not a bad result.
“The hardest part of coming back from injury is getting back to the level of the Premier League. The more games you play the better you will feel. Overall it was a positive day.
“Sergio Aguero has been a major player for us and there are not enough words to describe how important he is.
“We just hope he can carry on his career like this, it’s hard to come across a player who can have such an impact on games like he does.”
Aguero’s 14th minute header gave City the lead at St James’ Park and the goal was his 100th in the Premier League, with Goal writing that he has yet to receive the recognition he deserves.
Sam Lee scribes: “Aguero scored his 100th Premier League goal against Newcastle United on Tuesday night, in just his 147th appearance.
“Only Alan Shearer, who scored goals on this ground for fun, got there quicker.
“But no striker in Premier League history has a better minutes-per-goal ratio - 107.55 minutes - than the Argentine.
“Not Shearer, not Thierry Henry, not Ruud van Nistelrooy, not Luis Suarez, not Cristiano Ronaldo.
“The criteria for that particular list is 10 league goals, let alone 100.”
ESPN also feature Aguero’s landmark goal as they comment on him becoming the ‘deadliest striker in the history of the Premier League’.
Jonathan Smith comments: “Sergio Aguero arrived at Manchester City in July 2011 as a striker with huge promise.
“Five years later, the Argentine is officially the deadliest in the history of the Premier League.
He continued: “The 27-year-old reached the 100-goal mark in just 129 starts, averaging more goals per minute than any of his 24 fellow century-makers.”
And finally, it wouldn’t be a media round-up without a transfer rumour.
ClubCall are reporting that City are closing in on the signing of Dinamo Zagreb’s 19-year old midfielder Ante Coric.
They state: “Coric, who is likened in style to his compatriot Luka Modric, spent four years at Red Bull Salzburg before returning to his Zagreb birthplace for £700,000 back in 2013.
“Talks have been ongoing for about a month, and City are hopeful they can come to an agreement with Dinamo, who already rate the Croatian under-21 starlet at around £3.5million.
“Coric has scored four goals in 14 appearances this season and is also believed to be interesting both of the Milan clubs.”
