It’s the start of another Champions League week and as City prepare to travel to Glasgow for their tie with Celtic, the media have made them strong favourites for the win.

The Blues played – and beat – Swansea City twice last week and the Swans club captain Leon Britton has warned Celtic that City are the best team he has faced.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the 34-year-old said: “In terms of the passing, I don’t think I’ve played against a team in the Premier League who keep the ball as well they do with the rotation and the movement.

“Look at the keeper. He’s an extra player. He drops his shoulder and beats a man.

“You think you have them pressed in and there was one instance in the first-half when we did it and he just clipped a ball over all of our heads to Kevin De Bruyne on the halfway line and he was the free man. They are the best I have faced in the Premier League.

“Brendan [Rodgers, Celtic manager] is a manager who likes to play on the front foot and I’m sure Celtic come out, press them high and try to win the ball back.”

The National has decided to focus on the threat posed by Sergio Aguero, who has 11 goals in six matches so far this season, citing the Argentinian’s memorable City debut.

Stephen Morrissey writes: “Brendan Rodgers is highly unlikely to need any reminder of the threat Sergio Aguero will pose when Manchester City visit Celtic Park in the Champions League on Wednesday night, but the Argentine delivered one in any case.

“The 28-year-old scored a double as Pep Guardiola’s side beat Swansea 3-1 in Wales to maintain their perfect record at the top of the Premier League after six games.

“Rodgers was manager of a then newly promoted Swans in August 2011 when Aguero came off the bench on the hour mark on the opening day of the season to make his City debut.”

Finally, there’s been plenty of reaction to City Women’s Super League triumph yesterday. The Blues beat Chelsea 2-0 to seal the title with a match to spare.

Tony Leighton in the Guardian writes: “A convincing victory against the reigning champions gave Manchester City their first Women’s Super League title and with it a hint that they could go on to dominate the English game as Arsenal did in the first decade of the century.

“City played out the match on Sunday like the Gunners in their pomp, taking whatever their opponents could throw at them while always looking likely to push forward and score goals.”
