Let’s take a look at what Manchester City-centric stories are dominating the back pages this Thursday morning…

Manchester Evening News, who suggest that the playmaker could be an influential figure in the Blues’ hunt for silverware this season.

Simon Bajkowski has the story, which considers the impact of the Spaniard, should he build on his goal tally from previous seasons.

Acknowledging the development of Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure’s game under Pep Guardiola, Bajkowski believes there’s potential for Silva to do the same.

He writes: “Having previously said City needed to buy goals in the transfer market, Pep Guardiola must expect his remaining cohort to fill their shooting boots having filled the squad with assist kings.

“The key man to transform the team’s fortunes in front of goal though could be David Silva.

“City’s magician has mesmerised supporters and opposition defenders alike ever since his toes twinkled their way into the Premier League in 2010, and he showed last season that he can still thrive under Guardiola’s demands.

“Yet goals have largely eluded the playmaker.

“Since the former Barcelona coach arrived in Manchester, Sergio Aguero has become an even more dangerous striker and Yaya Toure has successfully evolved his game.

“As impressive as both of their evolutions have been, driving Silva’s goal tally up would outstrip those achievements for Guardiola - and, very possibly, bring silverware to the Etihad.”
