With just days remaining of this summer’s transfer window, speculation about last-ditch deals is rife – and Manchester City, as always, are involved.dxfb

This morning sees one name very much in the frame: Alexis Sanchez.

The Arsenal forward has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Etihad this summer - but yesterday’s back pages suggested Arsene Wenger’s unwillingness to let him go would likely scupper any deal.

But today, journalist Ian McGarry, talking on The Transfer Window podcast, suggests City remain very much in the hunt.

“We will see how that plays out in the next few days. It’s interesting Wenger declared Sanchez fit to play on Sunday against Liverpool,” he said.

“It’s still very much game on for Manchester City. He’s a player Pep Guardiola coverts, he sees he will improve his front four and give him a bit of steel and mettle that he believes his front line lacks.

“Sanchez is a warrior and as wonderfully creative as Manchester City’s front line is at this time, they do lack a bit of steel.

“That’s where Guardiola’s interest is intensified in regards to the Chile international.

“With one year left Arsenal are and have always been a selling club. A bid in excess of £60m would be enough to seal it.”

Meanwhile, with the City squad down in Bournemouth preparing for Saturday’s Premier League game at the Vitality Stadium, the Manchester Evening News have been predicting Pep’s potential starting XI.

Given City’s strength in depth, it’s no easy job – but Stuart Brennan feels it’s time for Bernardo Silva to make his full debut.

“The absence of Kyle Walker through suspension is a blow to City, but the performance of Danilo in the second half against Everton, playing in his preferred position, is adequate compensation,” Brennan writes.

“Benjamin Mendy should come in at left back, which will ease the problem the Blues face by only having three full backs.

“Elsewhere, there are some tricky dilemmas for Pep Guardiola.

“Neither Gabriel Jesus nor Sergio Aguero have been on fire for the Blues, while Raheem Sterling’s performance must bring him into contention.

“The same goes for Bernardo Silva, who looked perkier than David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne - and a trip to Bournemouth might be the perfect chance to give him his first start.”

That’s all for today, Blues. Stay tuned to mancity.com for coverage of today’s game!
