As Pep Guardiola’s side prepare to take on the Foxes for the second time in just over a month, we look at the headlines surrounding the Blues.
First up, Kevin De Bruyne.
The midfielder has been simply exquisite this season – not only scoring goals but setting them up for fun.
With his impressive statistics this season, there’s no wonder the Belgian is making the back pages every week.
Most recently, the Guardian has reported that our City star is close to signing a new deal with the club to extend his stay.
Jamie Jackson of the Guardian wrote: “Manchester City are ready to offer Kevin De Bruyne a new contract, with the club adamant he will not be sold to Real Madrid, Barcelona or any other rival, even if an astronomical offer is received.
“De Bruyne is enjoying the best form of his career and, along with David Silva, the 26-year-old has been the driving force in Pep Guardiola’s side.
“City are 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League, with their win against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday a record 16th consecutive victory in the top flight.
“De Bruyne was signed from Wolfsburg in August 2015 for £55m and, given his form and recent transfer-fee inflation, could be expected to fetch about double that now.
“City are aware he may attract bids from the likes of Real and Barcelona but are adamant the Belgian is not for sale.”
Next up, the Mirror has linked Manchester City with a Premier League striker.
As the January transfer window fast approaches there are rumours and various gossip flying around the media.
Most recently, the newspaper has claimed that City are looking to enter the race for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
“Manchester City are ready to join the £40million chase for Wilfried Zaha,” Adrian Kajumba writes. “Premier League leaders City are now among the clubs considering offering the Crystal Palace star a second crack at the big time.
“And the champions-elect have begun doing the groundwork on a potential deal for Zaha, who they view as one alternative to Alexis Sanchez.
“City are determined to ensure they keep their squad stocked with the sort of exciting attacking players manager Pep Guardiola likes and has amassed over the past couple of seasons.”
Finally we look at our upcoming Carabao Cup match against Leicester.
The two sides met just over a month ago at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League, when Manchester City secured a 2-0 victory over the former title winners.
Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News believes that a win against Leicester and qualification into the semi-finals of the competition will push Guardiola and his men further towards lifting the Premier League trophy.
“A win will open up what should be a tough semi-final,” Bajowski wrote in the MEN. “Particularly with the first leg nestled between games against Liverpool and Burnley.
“However, as this City team searches for trophies it will only build the aura around them as domestic opponents struggle to find a way to break through.
“With the notoriously tough Christmas fixture list around the corner, that could be exactly the lift the Blues need to push on in the league and try to open up an even bigger gap over United and the rest.”
That’s all for today! We will be back tomorrow with your Wednesday post-Leicester media watch…
