And, as ever, Manchester City feature heavily.
Let’s start today’s roundup of Blues gossip with a piece by John Cross in the Mirror, who believes a move for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is in the balance.
The forward, currently on international duty with Chile at the Confederations Cup in Russia, has been linked with City and Bayern Munich throughout the summer.
And Cross believes the German side have accepted defeat in the race to land the player - but says Arsenal remain unwilling to allow him to move to a Premier League rival.
“Alexis Sanchez has dropped a clear hint he wants to quit Arsenal - but fears they will not let him join Manchester City,” Cross writes.
“Gunners star Sanchez admitted he has made up his mind on his future but confessed it will only become clear after the Confederations Cup.
“Mirror Sport understands City are now the only club in for Sanchez because Bayern Munich have been scared off by his financial demands and a potential £50m fee.
“But Arsenal are adamant that they will not sell to a Premier League rival even though Sanchez could run down the final year of his contract and leave on a free next summer.”
This is a story that’s likely to run and run.
Moving on, then, to news that City have launched a bid for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker.
Darren Lewis, writing in the Mirror, says former Blue Kieran Trippier will be promoted and become Spurs’ No. 1 right-back, leaving Walker free to move to City.
“Manchester City have made their move for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker,” Lewis writes.
“Talks have been opened between the two clubs for the 27-year-old defender for whom the north Londoners will not accept less than £50million.
“It is understood Kieran Trippier has signed a new, five-year deal worth £65,000-a-week at the club to become Walker’s successor next season.”
That’s all for today, Blues. Same time, same place tomorrow!
