There’s more reaction to City’s fine win in Feyenoord, Watford’s perspective on Saturday’s game, a team-mate’s view of Benjamin Mendy’s impact on and off the pitch - plus a dash of transfer speculation.
Let’s start with the latter and continued links between City and Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez.
The latest reports suggest that Real Madrid are showing an interest, but according to the Daily Mirror City are in pole position.
One player who has made a big impact since his arrival during the summer US tour is left-back Benjamin Mendy.
The French defender’s trademark pace and power have been evident during the big wins against Liverpool and Feyenoord, while he has been making his presence felt on social media too!
ESPN’s Jonathan Smith writes: “‘It’s even worse,’ (Bernardo) Silva joked to reporters when asked what Mendy’s antics were like in the dressing room. ‘He is a great guy, on and off the pitch, he is a great player and a fantastic person as well.
“‘He is a big friend of mine, so for me it’s a pleasure to have him here. He has been helping a lot in the last games. To have him and Kyle in this team is great as well.’”
Bernardo himself received high praise from the MEN’s James Robson in his post-match analysis of the Feyenoord game.
“Manchester City fans had only seen brief flashes of Bernardo Silva’s brilliance this season - but unleashed from the start, he provided a masterclass in close-control, vision and passing.
“It was debatable whether City needed another creative midfielder this summer - but there are certain players you simply can’t miss out on.
“Had Pep Guardiola not swooped, it would surely have only been a matter of time before the Portuguese international ended up at one of Europe’s giants.
“The colours of Real Madrid or Barcelona would sit comfortably on his shoulders.
“His namesake David Silva is far from ready to hand over his mantle as City’s chief sorcerer - but Bernardo is his natural successor.”
Watford v City: Kick-off time, TV and team news
Are you confused by having two Silvas in the City team yet? Tough luck, there’s a third involved in Saturday’s fixture via Hornets boss Marco.
He gave his thoughts on the game at his press conference on Thursday, including the threat posed by in-form Kevin De Bruyne and his team-mates.
“Pep Guardiola hailed De Bruyne as one of the best players he has ever seen after the 4-0 Champions League victory over Feyenoord,” reported Sky Sports.
“And Silva added: ‘He’s a fantastic footballer, an amazing player, and when Pep says something like that after working with Lionel Messi and all the others it’s clear for everybody.
“‘He is a big player in the City team - but of course they have more.’”
That’s it for today, we’ll be back same time, same place tomorrow!
