Manchester Evening News: City ‘give up’ on Thiago Almada

Writes Joe Bray: “Manchester City are reportedly withdrawing from their pursuit of signing Argentinian youngster Thago Almada after seeing their latest bid rejected.

“City have been linked with the 18-year-old winger from Velez Sarsfield, dubbed the ‘new Lionel Messi’, with Portugese side Sporting reported to take him on a two-year loan deal.

“But now Ole say City have had a €12m bid rejected, and are therefore giving up on negotiations.”

Daily Express: Raheem Sterling names three City stars who can replace Vincent Kompany as captain

Sterling: “It’s not something that I’m fussed about really. It has to be natural, you can’t force it.

“I’m not going to start shouting on the pitch now Vinny’s gone. Your team-mates have to see you in that light.

“The manager and us as players will make the right choice. We’ve got a lot of good candidates here.

“David has been here for God knows how long - he’s been in the country longer than I have! There’s Kevin [De Bruyne], Dinho [Fernandinho], we have a lot of players who can fill it.”
