Josko Gvardiol believes City deserved to beat Tottenham at the Etihad on Sunday, but says we need to make improvements.

City were held 3-3 after a 90th minute equaliser as we drew in the Premier League for a third successive match.

While it was a thrilling game to watch, with Pep Guardiola’s side also hitting the woodwork on three occasions, Gvardiol says he would have preferred to have simply taken all three points.

“I’m disappointed. We deserved to win. We could have won the game a bit earlier and in the first half with big chances, but it is what it is, it’s football,” the Croatia international said.

“It was a great game and a great battle. It was amazing to watch of course but as a player it’s not amazing when you only take a point.

“We need to analyse the game and have a look at the mistakes we made. We try to not concede a goal in every game, but you also need to know that Spurs are dangerous up front with fast players and good in transitions.

“We know their qualities but as defenders, we need to improve some things.”

The draw squeezed the top of the table even closer with just four points now separating the top four teams.

City face another of the leading sides on Wednesday night when we travel to Aston Villa for the 20:15 (UK) kick-off.

With Rodrigo and Jack Grealish ruled out through suspension, Gvardiol says we will face yet another tough test.

“[Tottenham] is now behind us, and we move onto the next one on Wednesday against Villa,” he said. “It’s going to be a tough one, but we need to recover and be ready.

“We believe in our qualities, and we need to stay focused on ourselves. We keep going. We need to stick together and do what we do best.”

Gvardiol has already made 15 appearances for City, mostly as a left-back, since his summer switch from German side RB Leipzig.

And as we head into the notoriously busy December period, the defender says he is enjoying his time in the Premier League.

“This is next level and I’m really happy that I have a chance to perform in this league,” he added.

“It’s a new position and I enjoy playing in this position with my teammates.”
