Proud skipper Ilkay Gundogan hailed City's history makers after lifting the Champions League to clinch an iconic Treble.

Gundogan and his colleagues secured a first European Cup crown on an emotional night in Istanbul as Rodrigo‘s second half strike was enough to secure a hard-fought 1-0 win over Inter.

The victory at the Olympic Ataturk Stadium set the seal on an incredible season that has also seen us win the Premier League and FA Cup.

For Gundogan it was especially sweet after defeats in his two previous Champions League final appearances with City and Borussia Dortmund.

And he said that City had handled the pressure and expectation when it was at its most acute.

“It’s an unbelievable night. It’s difficult to put into words, difficult to realise. Today we made history,” said the City skipper.

“It’s a Champions League final so it was clear it was going to be difficult for both teams.

“We weren’t our best in the first half. We were a little bit hesitant even though we had a couple of good chances.

“We had to better. I think that’s what we did but it was probably a 50/50 goal and one goal made the difference.

“We feel fortunate it was for us.

“We knew everyone was talking about the Treble especially after the FA Cup final.

“The pressure was there but this team is built to handle the pressure in the best possible way and we did it tonight.”
