Manuel Akanji says he has the hunger to attempt to reproduce last season's historic Treble.

The Swiss international was a key part of the squad that lifted the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in his first campaign in England.

With the Blues now tasked with defending all three trophies, Akanji insists he has the drive required to match those achievements.

City’s 2022/23 Champions League journey

Speaking before Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Young Boys, the champions of his home country, Akanji said: “I want to go again this season and win all that’s possible.

“Unfortunately we can’t win the Carabao Cup but all the other competitions I hope we can fight for them and hopefully lift some more trophies this year.

“I think we started really well in the season, we didn’t win the Community Shield but after that we had a long streak of winning but then the three losses in England.

“Obviously that wasn’t good for us but it’s good to show the reaction and to win the game at the weekend which wasn’t easy.”

Having already defeated Red Star Belgrade at home and RB Leipzig in Germany, we’re in a strong position in Group G.

However, Akanji expects another strong challenge from Young Boys.

The Swiss club are managed by Raphael Wicky, who was briefly Akanji’s boss at FC Basel during the 2017/18 season.

“He was a really good manager but has developed as a manager,” said Akanji.

“He was in America and is now back in Switzerland doing a good job at Young Boys.

“They won’t be scared, they try to play their football and be brave but we come here focusing on ourselves and for the three points.”
