Pep Guardiola has explained the importance of City’s game by game attitude after being named The Best FIFA Men’s Coach at the 2023 FIFPRO Awards.

The boss guided City to our most successful season to date in 2022/23, as we claimed a third-successive Premier League title, won the FA Cup and were crowned Champions of Europe for the first time in our history.

Things have continued in a similar vein during the current campaign, with the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup both added to the trophy cabinet in September and December, completing the Big Five.

But Guardiola insisted a simple focus on improving for the next game was essential in order to achieve that remarkable success.

“In terms of results, it looks almost impossible [to improve]! But it’s not about that,” the boss said after the ceremony.

“When we started the previous season, we just thought about one game at a time, this month to be better than the month before.

“This is a continued process to see what happens. We’re human beings and will have good and bad moments but you have to improve.”

Guardiola’s trophy tally since he joined the Club back in 2016 now stands at an outstanding 16 major honours, having previously been named The Best FIFA Men’s Coach back in 2011.

While the mentality is always to look ahead, with City once again competing all multiple fronts for silverware in 2023/24, the boss admitted he will cherish our exploits across the past 12 months for many years to come.

He continued: “We are here because we won a lot, and that’s thousands of people involved in our success.

“I’m really happy for the season we had, because it was an incredible journey.

“In the end we did it, but the pleasure of being there was incredible.”
