Rodrigo has been shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.

The Spanish midfielder didn’t miss a minute as we got our title defence off to the perfect start with three victories from three games.

He scored and provided an assist in the opening day win at Burnley, before a battling performance in the middle of the park against Newcastle United the following week.

The 27-year-old, our match-winner in June’s Champions League final, rounded off August with a dramatic late winner at Sheffield United, firing into the top corner with his weaker left foot.

Those performances saw him crowned Etihad Player of the Month while those two strikes have already seen him match his league goal tally from the whole of last season.

As is often the case, he also leads the way for number of passes across the whole league - having played 453 in his four games so far.

Our man will face tough competition for the August award however, coming up against Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, Spurs’ James Maddison, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma.

You can vote for Rodrigo here until midday on Monday 11 September. The winner will then be announced at 11:00 on Friday 15 September, which we will report on if our man is successful.
