Gareth Taylor has described Lauren Hemp’s opener in our 2-0 WSL triumph over Leicester as one of the best goals he’s ever seen.

The winger’s audacious scorpion kick finish saw City break the visitors’ stubborn resistance with stoppage time approaching.

Chloe Kelly added a second moments later with a spectacular strike of her own to help Taylor’s side record a seventh successive league win and move top of the table for a few hours at least.

It was just rewards for City’s persistence, with two moments of genuine brilliance seeing us over the line.

Speaking about Hemp’s opener, the boss said: “I’ve just managed to see it again. I think it’s outstanding. It’s one of the best goals I’ve seen.

“When I saw it in the moment, I didn’t realise how much she had to do to get the ball in the goal.

“The way she’s been able to manoeuvre that is incredible. It’s a magical goal. Honestly, when I saw it after, I was like ‘wow’. That’s a world class goal. We needed something like that.”

The boss also provided an update on the condition of City captain Steph Houghton, who missed Sunday’s clash with the Foxes due to an ankle injury.

Our defender had a scan earlier this week to determine the severity of the issue, and Taylor admitted she could be out for a few weeks.

“Steph is quite a quick healer and her mentality is obviously really strong,” the boss added.

“She’ll be champing at the bit to get back, pushing me and the physios.

“Her role never changes if she plays or doesn’t. She still gives the same level of leadership all the time.

“I could hear her loads today sat down in front of me. She’s so vital to what we do.”
