Gareth Taylor says City are relishing Wednesday’s Manchester derby clash with United in the Continental Cup, stressing: ‘We’re here to win.’

City face our neighbours tomorrow, live on CITY+, knowing that a victory would ensure progress into the competition’s quarter-finals.

Taylor is feeling upbeat ahead of the tie, especially given our form at the Joie Stadium.

And the manager hinted there would be less rotation than normal for this vital game in the competition.

“It’s a nice game for us to have with the situation in our own hands. If we win, we progress.

“Our home form has been pretty good recently. We have been scoring a lot of goals at home and taking our chances.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to.

“We’re here to win. It’s about creating as much rhythm as we can and sometimes that is going with the same team.

“Players are training hard, performing well from the start or the bench.

“We’ve never disrespected any competition. We have rotated but with confidence that we have players that are capable of performing.

“People place it as one of the lower trophies but it’s a trophy and one we have been successful in and want to win this season.”

City have already defeated United this season, November 2023’s 3-1 victory at Old Trafford described as a ‘big moment’ by Taylor as he met the media this afternoon to preview the latest game between the clubs.

“It feels like a while ago but it was a big moment, to play with the identity that we showed after a couple of disappointing results not performances.

“We made a statement that evening and we want to do that tomorrow evening.

“We’re creating a lot of opportunities at the top end, scoring goals and playing with confidence.

“We’re always looking to be the best versions of ourselves.

“Tomorrow is a funny game because United are already through but they will want to give a good account of themselves.

“They potentially have one eye on the weekend but we don’t. We are really focused on this game.”
