Lauren Hemp MBE…

The City and England forward has been named in the New Year Honours List of King Charles after being recognised for her achievements in women’s football.

Each year, since 1860, the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom recognises a list of people from across the UK for their achievements and services from a variety of industries in either the New Year Honours list or the Birthday Honours list.

The 23-year-old is among those selected by the King for the 2024 award.

Hemp has been an inspiring figure in the women’s game, winning four PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year awards, three during her time at City as well as earning a spot in the PFA WSL Team of the Year two seasons in succession.

For England, the winger has been a key figure during their 2022 UEFA European Championship success as well as earning a FIFA Women’s World Cup runners-up medal in 2023.

She’s spent five years at City and now has the sixth highest number of appearances, featuring 142 times in blue and scoring 59 goals in the process.

During her sparkling spell at the Joie Stadium to date, Hemp has won the 2018/19 FA Cup as well as the 2018/19 and 2021/22 Continental Cup.

One of the youngest female football players to receive the honour, Hemp expressed her gratitude on hearing the news.

“I’m feeling very privileged and honoured to receive such a prestigious honour,” said Hemp.

“It’s a huge achievement not only for me, but my family and everyone who loves our beautiful game. It’s been an incredible few years.

“I’d like to dedicate my MBE to everyone that has supported me in my career so far, and everyone behind the scenes for continuing to push boundaries to get women’s football to where it is today.”

As well as being a hero at City, Hemp has also inspired generations of people around the globe with her tenacity and passion on the international stage, proving to be a star for the Three Lions.

Since making her senior debut at the age of 19, Hemp has gone on to win 51 caps as well as scoring 16 goals for her country.

Her international accolades also include the 2023 Women’s Finalissima trophy, the 2022 and 2023 Arnold Clark Cups, as well as having represented Team GB at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Lauren on receiving her MBE, a truly remarkable achievement.
