Gareth Taylor preview

“It’s a nice game for us to have with the situation in our own hands. If we win, we progress.

“Our home form has been pretty good recently. We have been scoring a lot of goals at home and taking our chances.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to.

“We’re here to win. It’s about creating as much rhythm as we can and sometimes that is going with the same team.

“Players are training hard, performing well from the start or the bench.

“We’ve never disrespected any competition. We have rotated but with confidence that we have players that are capable of performing.

“People place it as one of the lower trophies but it’s a trophy and one we have been successful in and want to win this season.”

Last time out

City moved back up to second in the Women’s Super League with an excellent 5-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

The Reds have impressed this season and Taylor Hinds put the visitors ahead inside 15 minutes.

But a Gemma Bonner own goal brought us level before Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw struck a hat-trick in the space of 24 minutes either side of half-time.

Chloe Kelly then added a fifth from the penalty spot after Lauren Hemp was brought down as she raced clear.

Previous meeting

The two sides met in the first Manchester derby at Old Trafford in November with City triumphing 3-1.

Despite starting strongly, we conceded the opening goal when Katie Zelem’s penalty squeezed past Khiara Keating.

But City went in ahead at the break after quickfire goals from Jill Roord and Lauren Hemp turned the game on its head.

And the win was wrapped up in the second half when Shaw charged down England keeper Mary Earp’s clearance which rebounded into the net.
